World No. 3, Carlos Alcaraz, is optimistic about achieving one of his key goals for the rest of the season: finishing as the top-ranked tennis player in the world.

Alcaraz aims to build on his recent success, which includes winning back-to-back Grand Slam titles and a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Tennis event.

Alcaraz, who lost to Novak Djokovic at the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympic Tennis Tournament, will resume action on Wednesday, August 13, 2024, at the ongoing Cincinnati Open.

Ahead of the 2024 Cincinnati Open, Alcaraz, as reported by Flashscore, is 450 points behind world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the ATP live race to the season finale in Turin. He is hopeful to close the gap during the tournament when he faces the Italian Sinner.

“Obviously, being number one is a goal every time that I’m behind, and the race is an important ranking for me. At the end of the year, if you end the race number one, the rankings are quite similar, so you’ll end up number one,” Alcaraz said.

“So I’m really focused on that. I’m focused on going to every tournament, thinking about playing great tennis, and achieving good results just to improve in the race. This year, ending the year as number one is one of my main goals right now.”

Alcaraz, who was the runner-up at the last edition, will begin his campaign against Gael Monfils as he returns to hardcourt tennis for the first time since reaching the Miami quarter-finals in March.

The Cincinnati Open is an important tune-up event for the U.S. Open, which will be held from August 26 to September 8.

“I’m excited to play here again. Obviously, I have great memories from last year, reaching the final and losing a really tight and epic match to Djokovic,” Alcaraz concluded.

Djokovic withdrew from Cincinnati after his Olympic triumph.
