The #EndBadGovernance protest in Plateau State may have reopened another chapter of peaceful coexistence in the lives of the people of Plateau State.
The relationship that existed between Christians and Muslims in the State was further strengthened on the protest ground, and should be encouraged for lasting peace.
The first day of the protest saw the solidarity go into the second day on Friday. In his remarks the Global President of Initiative for Better and brighter Nigeria (IBBN) Prophet Isah El- buba said on Sunday, he will led Sunday service where hundreds of Christians irrespective of denominations are expected to come and worship God at the protest ground, adding the merciful God will listen to their yearning and aspirations.
He raised alarm that hoodlums were sent to cause trouble in their midst so that the aims of their peaceful protest will be defeated. He urged the protesters to be security conscious and report to security operatives any suspicious movement of those who want to bring their names to disrepute.
In the same vein, Plateau State Commissioner of Police (CP) Olugbemiga Adesina represented by the Command public relation officer, DSP Alfred Alabo while speaking, commended Plateau protesters so far for their peaceful disposition, adding that the state was rated as one of the most peaceful states during the protest.
He disclosed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun and the State Commissioner of Police (CP) Olugbemiga Adesina were very happy over the conduct of Plateau protesters for what they have done so far.
Similarly on Sunday during the interdenominational service at the protest ground our correspondent observed that the protesters were united in their calls for change. Prayers were offered in a display of interfaith solidarity,
Nevertheless, the peaceful protest was later hijacked by hoodlums Sunday evening, leading to the imposition of curfew.
In his reactions, the North Central Coordinator of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) Comrade Steve Aluko argued that the best Government can do is to take the protest as part of referendum on her policies and look at critical areas needed to reverse some of these policies, while strengthening the instrument of government to ensure that there is good governance at all levels of governments.
He advised the youths that Nigeria constitution guarantee peaceful protest and not violence while urging them to conduct themselves peacefully otherwise the protest will be hijacked by hoodlums.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang had in a statewide broadcast raised alarm that merchants of violence hired hoodlums to cause havocs in the state during the peaceful protests.
