Port Harcourt, Rivers state – Governor Siminalayi Fubara received a massive backlash after offering EndBadGovernance protesters pure water money at Port Harcourt Government House in Rivers state on Thursday, August 1.

Fubara assured the protesters that he would deliver their message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

As reported by The Punch, the governor thanked the protesters for being peaceful in making their demands known to the government.

He said:

“Here in Rivers State, we will do everything to make life better. But all we need from you is to support the Federal Government. We know there is hunger but just be patient with the government.

“I will give you a small thing for you to drink pure water.”

However, Fubara’s offer made the youths furious and they became uncontrollable as they talked back with annoyance.

‘No no, saying “We don’t need your, ‘keep your money, we want good governance in Nigeria’, Tinubu must go.”

Some irate youths felt insulted by Fubara’s monetary gift with some asking rhetorically, “How much can you us. We want food Governance and not money. Keep your money”, they chanted, Vanguard reports.

Efforts by the governor to pacify them and to explain what he meant fell on deaf ears.

Governor Fubara, however, continued to wave his hands towards them as he left the government house.

The former minister of youth and sports development, Barr. Solomon Dalung explained why he joined the #EndBadGovernance protest.

Dalung said he joined other Nigerians to protest against hunger, poverty, insecurity, injustice and impunity in the country.

The former Buhari’s minister called on the government at all levels to sit up to address some of the challenges confronting the country.
