Newcastle United have announced the signing of Danish-born Nigerian striker William Osula.

The Magpies announced the signing in a statement on their website on Thursday.

“Newcastle United have completed the signing of striker William Osula from Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee,” the club statement read.

“The 21-year-old made 21 Premier League appearances last season and has also represented Denmark Under-21s on five occasions, including this summer when he scored a brace against Norway.

“Born in Copenhagen, Osula started his youth career in the Danish capital before moving to South Yorkshire and joining Sheffield United’s academy in 2018.

“He signed his first professional contract with the club in 2021 and enjoyed a loan spell with Derby County during the 2022-23 season.

“Capable of playing as a striker or from the flanks, Osula now arrives in the North East and adds further options to Eddie Howe’s squad ahead of the upcoming season.”

Speaking after completing his transfer to Newcastle, Osula said: “I’m very happy to be here. It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United.

“It’s a great opportunity, and as soon as I heard about Newcastle’s interest, I knew I had to take the chance to join this club if it came.

“It has come, and I’m really happy to be here.”

Osula, who was born to a Danish mother and a Nigerian father, moved to England at a young age.

He has only featured for Denmark at junior level and is eligible to play for Nigeria.
