The International Association Of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) has that said it will be observing the International Day of Police Cooperation in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.

The event is slated for Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.

The association, in a press statement signed by its Coordinator of Abuja, Amb. Sunday Lawal, said the event will also be used to recognise some fallen officers of the Nigerian Police INTERPOL Unit.

Amb. Lawal, who was recently inaugurated as the FCT Coordinator of IAWPA, said the Police Day event will be used to highlight the association’s peace advocacy efforts in the FCT and the country at large.

He stressed the need for individuals and Civil Society Groups as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support and complement the efforts of government at all times.

Amb. Lawal said IAWPA will be organising the event in collaboration with the Nigeria Police INTERPOL Unit. He stressed that the programme aligns with the aims of several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions); and SDG 17, which emphasises the revitalisation of the global partnership for sustainable development.

In a related development, the Director of Youth, IAWPA, Amb. Abdul Suleiman, said association will be using the event to kickstart the School Peace Awareness Programme, which aims to enlighten students on peace-building and advocacy. He said the programme will also witness the launch of IAWPA Peace clubs in various schools in the country, beginning with schools within the FCT. He said the association has already reached out to the Federal Ministry of Education as well as the FCT Secondary Schools Board in order to make the programme inclusive.
