Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has again relaxed the 24-hour curfew earlier imposed on Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

He said there would now be free movement between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm effective Saturday.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Mr Gyang Bere, on Friday in Jos, the State Capital.

DAILY POST recalls that the State government had last Sunday imposed the 24-hour curfew on the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, sequel to looting of public and private properties by some hoodlums in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.

The hoodlums took advantage of the nationwide ”EndBadGovernance” protest to perpetrate the criminal acts.

He also said that the decision to relax the curfew was in consonance with the security agencies.

”In light of the improved security situation in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, the Plateau Government has further relaxed the curfew, effective Saturday, August 10th, 2024.

”Residents are now permitted to move freely for their lawful activities between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm daily until further notice.

”Governor Caleb Mutfwang, in consultation with security agencies, has authorised this relaxation.

”The adjustment is to allow law-abiding citizens to continue with their economic activities while maintaining public order”, he explained.

Bere said that the governor, who thanked all the security agencies for effectively enforcing the curfew, said that the government would continue to review it as the security situation improved.

He added that the governor also urged residents within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activity for prompt action.
