Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye MFR, known professionally as King Sunny Ade, has made a lifelong promise to the late singer Onyeka Onwenu, who passed away on July 30.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalled that the 72-year-old music icon had died at the Reddington Hospital, Lagos after she slumped while performing at the birthday party of famous socialite Mrs. Stella Okoli.

The jùjú singer, who led the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria (MCSN) on a condolence visit to the late singer’s family during the week, promised to keep her memories alive by performing their song ‘Wait for Me’ throughout his life.

Released in 1989, the song titled “Wait for Me” by Onyeka Onwenu and King Sunny Ade is a classic song about abstinence and waiting for the right time to engage in sexual activities in a relationship.

Sunny Ade also opened up about his relationship with the late broadcaster turn actress, saying she was more than just a friend and a cherished partner in his music career.

He said: “I can’t explain it; you know if they give you the news of the death of a loved one who has to do with your life and also your work.

“She’s not just an ordinary woman; she was someone who would sit down with you and she used to say, ‘Can I chip in some advice?’ and the advice was always correct.”

Recalling her insightful contributions, KSA told Qed.ng, “She used to do more than I did; when it comes to music that people do together, she used to do more. She would tap me and say, ‘Sunny, let’s take it this way,’ and it was always good.”
