Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi zoomed into the semi-finals of the men’s 100m at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games after claiming first position in Heat 5.
Ajayi put everyone on notice after winning the race in a time of 10.02s.
He defeated defending champions, Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs who finished second in 10.05s, with Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu coming in third in a time of 10.06s.
Another top contender Benjamin Richardson of Jamaica finished in fourth position.
The 25-year-old is making his debut at the Olympics.

Another Nigerian, Favour Ashe also progressed to the semis.
Ashe finished fourth in Heat 4 in a time of 10.16s.
He finished behind Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown and Thailand’s Thurpool Bonboon.
Ashe grabbed the last non-automatic spot.
In swimming, Adaku Nwandu finished second in heat 6 of women’s 50m Freestyle behind Elizaveta Pecherskikh.
She however failed to make it to the final.
