Chioma Ajunwa has expressed disappointment with Nigeria’s performance at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Nigeria failed to win a medal at the games despite the presence of top athletes like Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Blessing Oborodudu and Odunayo Adekuroye.

It is the eighth time Nigeria would return home from the Olympics without a medal.

Ajunwa, who won gold medal in the women’s long jump event at the Atlanta’96 Olympic Games, said it was unfortunate that the nation lost the whole chances, adding that athletes wasted their time, energy and resources.

“It’s quite disheartening that every year Nigeria tells this kind of story,” Ajunwa told Arise TV.

“If you could remember, after the last Olympics before this, it was still the same thing.

“You know they will keep on telling us. Oh, let them go back to the drawing board, the drawing board we never see; and we don’t know how to draw on the board.

“It’s quite unfortunate that we have lost the whole chances. And the athletes to have wasted their time, their energy and their own personal resources.

“It is quite unfortunate that Nigeria spent so much, but that one is not my business because we don’t spend that money when we are supposed to spend it.”
