The Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the scrabble game at the last Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) event, Passfine Chinkere, has praised the organisers of the maiden edition of the All-Amazon Scrabble Championship, scheduled to take place between August 30 and 31, 2024.
The two-day all-female championship, set to be held in Benin City, Edo State, was organised by Words and Wits in conjunction with the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF).

According to a statement by the player’s media team on Thursday, August 15, Chinkere described the championship as an opportunity to develop the game among female players.
“I call it ‘A New Chapter in the World of Scrabble.’ The First All-Amazon Scrabble Championship and the prospect of an All-Amazon Scrabble Championship is incredibly exciting,” she said.
“It signifies a new era for the classic word game, one that merges the traditional with the digital. As the first of its kind, this event has the potential to redefine the competitive Scrabble landscape and introduce the game to a broader audience.”
Chinkere added that it will open the door for girls to combine education and sports.
“I envision that this championship will be more than just a competition; it could be a platform to foster a strong community both online and offline,” she said.
Ahead of the championship, over 60 female players are expected to participate in the competition.
