Brazil has qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s football event of the Paris Olympic games after edging hosts France 1-0 on Saturday.
Gabi Portilho was the hero for Brazil as she struck in the 82nd minute to send her team through.
France had the chance to take the lead in the 16th minute after they were awarded a penalty but Sakina Karchaoui failed to convert.
Brazil will now take on Spain in the semi-finals while Germany will battle the USA.
In other quarter-final fixtures Germany beat reigning Olympic champions Canada on penalty shootout, Spain also needed penalties to beat Colombia and USA pipped Japan 1-0.
