Manchester United have reportedly approached Barcelona regarding a possible transfer deal for Frenkie de Jong.
Erik ten Hag, who managed De Jong at Ajax, has been eyeing the midfielder for some time. In the summer of 2022, securing De Jong’s services was a primary focus of United’s transfer plans.
However, the effort to acquire him proved fruitless, leading the team to make a last-minute decision to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid.

Despite the challenges of finalizing a deal and addressing other team concerns, United’s interest in the Dutch midfielder has never fully waned.
One of the club’s top priorities this summer is to expand Ten Hag’s midfield options. Manuel Ugarte, Martin Zubimendi, and Sofyan Amrabat remain viable choices, with Amrabat having been loaned to Old Trafford for the previous season. He remains listed in the club’s first-team squad on their website, raising the possibility of a summer return.
According to Manchester World, the Red Devils are open to finalizing a deal if an offer between £30 million and £40 million can be arranged.
The Premier League side has made a preliminary approach to Barcelona in recent days to inquire about De Jong’s availability.

It remains uncertain if the Catalan club would be willing to sell the 27-year-old. Hansi Flick, the manager, is reportedly keen on retaining the Netherlands international.
De Jong has struggled with various injuries over the past two seasons, most recently suffering an ankle injury that prevented him from joining Ronald Koeman’s side for the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
The former Ajax star made 30 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona last season, scoring just two goals.
