El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club have been awarded N35.2 million by the Borno State Government in recognition of their remarkable victory in the 2024 President Federation Cup.
The team made history by defeating Abia Warriors 2-0 in the final, ending a 32-year wait for the prestigious trophy to return to Borno.
The cash award was presented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, on behalf of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, during a ceremony in the SSG’s office.
As part of this generous package, each player received a stipend of N1 million as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work.

In addition to the state government’s support, El-Kanemi Warriors also received a N50 million cash prize for their Federation Cup triumph.
Commissioner of Sports, Hon. Sainna Buba, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for the financial support and recommended Babagana Kalli for the position of Special Adviser on Sports, emphasizing his extensive experience in the field.
Technical Adviser Coach Aliyu Zubairu praised the state government for its continued commitment to enhancing sports in Borno and urged the prompt release of funds to ensure the team’s smooth travel for matches across the country.
