The 8th substantive Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Professor Edward Olanipekun, has confirmed that he is leaving the university in a much better state than he found it five years ago.
Professor Olanipekun, who spoke during an interactive session with journalists in Ado Ekiti, noted that his administration introduced various initiatives and policies that led to improved academic and moral excellence.
While Professor Olanipekun expressed gratitude to God for his appointment and the successes achieved, he mentioned that the saddest day of his administration was when the in-house unions were proscribed.
Professor Olanipekun said that although he was able to engage with relevant authorities to address the issue, he felt very uncomfortable with the decision, which he said was made while he was away.
The VC also mentioned that he would have liked the university to have residential facilities for both lecturers and students, noting that such development remains the best way to promote qualitative teaching, learning, and research.
He expressed hope that his successor would address this area and make it a reality.
Regarding his future endeavours, Olanipekun stated that he plans to retire and take some time off to decide his next steps, but he promised to continue impacting knowledge.
