A traditional ruler in Takum local government council of Taraba State, Sopiya Ahmadu Gboshi III, has claimed that a significant portion of criminal activities in the council are being perpetrated by elements from neighbouring Katsina-Ala local government council in Benue State.
In a statement on Wednesday in Jalingo, the monarch who addressed the recent killings in the area, urged the people of the area to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions.
He assured the public that the government and relevant stakeholders are actively working around the clock to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
“These criminal activities are mostly perpetrated by criminal elements from neighbouring local government areas, especially Katsina-Ala Local Government Council of Benue State.”
The traditional ruler reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with the state government and security agencies to end the violence.
“The security agencies, the government, and stakeholders are working hard to unravel the identities of the perpetrators of the killings and bring them to book,” he reiterated.
Emphasizing the importance of avoiding any form of retaliation, the monarch expressed concern over the killings, which he described as part of a malicious agenda by some evil individuals.
He called on the government to intensify security operations and increase deployments to counter the growing boldness of the attackers in Taraba and tasked the people of Takum and the entire state to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the authorities for immediate action.
The appeal follows the tragic incident on Monday morning, where six passengers traveling along the Takum-Wukari road were brutally murdered by unidentified gunmen.
A traditional ruler and his son, it would be recalled, were as well recently brutally killed by yet to be arrested unknown gunmen in the council.
