The Niger State Police Command has arrested four notorious motorcycle thieves who specialised in disposing people of their motorcycles from various parts of the state.
The command also recovered a vehicle and motorcycles from the suspects.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna, said they were arrested based on information given to the command.
On the recovered vehicle, Abiodun explained: “On August 12, 2024, at about 8:15 am, information was received that one Toyota Corolla vehicle with No. RBC 94 BT was parked around Obasanjo Shopping Complex while the owner went to purchase some items.
“On his return to the parking point, he discovered that the vehicle had been stolen by an unknown person. He quickly reported to the Police Area Command Office, Minna, and the intelligence operatives attached to the area command swung into action with the aid of technical intelligence.”
The PPRO disclosed that the said vehicle was traced to the Mobil roundabout, Minna, at about 2:30 pm, in front of Jaiz Bank, where it was abandoned by the suspected car thief.
“The case is under investigation at the Area Command Office with a view to arresting the fleeing suspect,” he stated.
The police spokesperson also revealed that three persons were arrested in Bida, Bida Local Government Area of the state for allegedly stealing a motorcycle from the student lodge and taking the motorcycle to Minna for disposal.
They include Ahmed Nasir, 24, Abdullahi Ahmed, 21, both from the Sabongida area of Bida and Abubakar Jibrin, 32, of Dwayagi village via Bida, all of whom confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Abiodun added that while the fourth suspect, Hassan Aliyu, 25,
of Dutsen-Kura, Minna was arrested in Kuta during an attempt to steal a motorcycle.
The cases are currently under investigation and the suspects will be charged in court for prosecution.
