The Project Director of the National Transporters Game, Wale Sodehinde, has said Ogun State is set to hold the first game for transport unions by October 2024.

Sodehinde spoke on Thursday during a stadium inspection with national transport leaders in Sagamu and Ikenne.

He explained that the one-week game is aimed at bringing unity in diversity among transporters in Nigeria and changing the negative perception people have about transporters.

Sodehinde, while acknowledging Dayo Ogundipe, who conceived the idea in 2017 with former Senator representing Ogun West, Gbolahan Dada, said eight out of twelve expected transportation unions have responded to their call.

“We are trying to make sure there is unity, love, and growth among those driving the economy of this country.

“Transporters are major players in the Nigerian economy. They should be well addressed. They should have a good image,” he said.

“We are expecting 12 transport unions, but presently we have eight that have responded to our call. This means it’s a good move, and maybe by the time you media project this initiative, others will join,” he added.

Stadiums inspected include Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu; Remo Star Stadium, Ikenne; and the National Youth Service Corps Camp at Sagamu, meant for the accommodation of participants in the event.
