Team Nigeria’s Samuel Ogazi ran a new personal best of 44.50 seconds to book an automatic spot into the semi-finals of men’s 400 metres at the Paris Olympic on Sunday.
Ogazi Closed in very fast to finish second and earned his place in the semis in the race that was won by USA’s Quincy Hall who ran 44.28 seconds.
He is now the first Nigerian male quarter-miler to qualify for the 400 metres semifinals at the Olympics in 24 years.
It was not good news in the men’s 100 metres as both Kanyisola Ajayi and Favour Ashe failed to make it to the final.
Ajayi finished in sixth in Semi-final heat 2 in a time of 10.16 seconds.
South Africa’s Akani Simbine went through to the final wining heat 2 in a time of 9.87s.
Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo grabbed the second automatic spot in 9.91s, and the Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs coming in third in an equal Season’s Best of 9.92s (he will wait to see if he would go through).
Ashe also placed sixth in a time of 10.08 seconds, in his own semi-finals heat to miss out of the final.
