The Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, Professor Maxwell Onyemachi Ogbulu, has charged matriculating students to focus on education, discipline and integrity throughout their academic journey at the institution.
Ogbulu gave the charge at the 42nd matriculation ceremony of the school on Saturday.
During the event, 4,368 fresh students from different departments participated in the matriculation, which also had many parents in attendance.
He warned them against indulging in inimical activities, including cultism, examination malpractice, or any other bad behavior that may jeopardize their academic future.
Professor Ogbulu, who described the fresh students as leaders of tomorrow, urged them to uphold the institution’s core values of excellence, commitment, and innovation as they embark on a new chapter in their lives.
The administration of the matriculation oath was performed by the university’s registrar, Acho Elendu, signifying the formal induction of the freshers into the university. The fresh students promised to adhere to the rules and regulations governing the institution throughout their years at the school.
Delivering a sermon, an Anglican priest, Venerable Ugochukwu, charged the new ABSU students not to disappoint their parents but to utilize the opportunities of their admission to become future leaders and champions.
