Spain edged France 5-3 in the gold medal match in the men’s football event of the Paris 2024 Olympic games on Friday.

It is Spain’s first Olympic games football gold medal since the Barcelona 1992 games.

Also, it is the first time an European country will win gold at the games since the 1992 Olympics also won by Spain.

For France, their long wait for a first football gold medal continue since winning it at Los Angeles 1984.

France got off to a good start as they took the lead in the 11th minute through Enzo Millot.

Spain responded in remarkable fashion as they scored three goals inside 10 minutes to go 3-1 ahead.

Fermin Lopez drew Spain level on 18 minutes and got on the score sheet again on 25 minutes and just three minutes later Alex Baena made it 3-1.

France refused to give up and reduced the deficit with 11 minutes left through substitute Maghnes Akliouche before Jean-Philippe Mateta completed the comeback on 93rd minute from the penalty spot and force the game into extra-time.

I’m the 100th minute of extra-time Sergio Camello put Spain 4-3 up before grabbing the fifth goal in the 121st minute.
