Team Nigeria will begin medal hunt in athletics at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games today, Friday, August 2,Completesports.com reports.

The team will participate in six track and field events.

Athletes competing include high jumper Temitope Adeshina; the women’s discus trio of Ashely Anumba, Chioma Onyekwere, and Obiageri Amaechi; shot put thrower Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, and the mixed 4x400m relay team.

They will compete in the first round of their respective events at the Stade de France.

Olympic debutant Adeshina, who holds both indoor and outdoor national records, will start her competition in the women’s high jump at 9:15 a.m.

African champion Anumba, Commonwealth Games gold medalist and two-time African champion Onyekwere, and reigning African Games champion Amaechi will compete in the women’s discus throw in the evening session.

Two-time African Championships and African Games winner Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will also vie for a spot in the men’s shot put final.

On the track, the mixed 4x400m relay team will run in Heat 2 of their event, facing strong competitors including Great Britain, the Netherlands, Ireland, the Dominican Republic, and Italy.

Only the top three teams from the heat will secure automatic qualification for the final on Saturday, August 3.
