The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, has said the opposition and enemies of President Bola Tinubu want him out of power and not the North.

AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima, however, urged security agents to arrest and prosecute those attempting to remove Tinubu from power under the aegis of nationwide protest.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Shettima said: “Nigeria is a sovereign nation governed by a democratically elected government, as such, I feel there is a sinister move behind the protest; so security agents should fish out those behind it and bring them to book.

“We understand that there is a problem in the country, there is hunger and we are very much concerned. The government has made its stand known and the protesters have made their case very clear, so for any other action; the government and citizen must make their findings and know the sponsors and those responsible for these foreign things coming into the country.”

Shettima also downplayed the possibility of a revolution in Nigeria in the near future.

He added: “I don’t see the protest spiralling into a revolution. Nigerians have made their point and the government has taken note of what they are saying, I’m sure the government will do something about it.

“We must ensure that this is the moment of sober reflection where Nigerians must come together to do the needful and ensure the country remains stable.

“There is nowhere uprising brings good results, no nation has gone through any violent protest and got it right. We will ensure that Nigeria is not part of any violent protest while calling for calm.

“Truly, there are pains everywhere but we are appealing that our youths remain calm, let’s give the government the benefit of the doubt while it does the needful. That’s the work of opposition and enemies of Tinubu which has nothing to do with us in the North.”
