Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, has spoken for the first time since it emerged that Conor Gallagher has been ‘banished’ from training.
Gallagher’s time at Stamford Bridge appears to be over after the club agreed a £34 million fee with Atletico Madrid.
The England midfielder is free to negotiate personal terms with the LaLiga side, but has been reluctant to do so.
It is believed the Blues are now actively trying to force the 24-year-old out.
Gallagher has been informed he is unlikely to play much under new manager Maresca, because of the Italian’s possession-based tactics.
The Sun reported that Chelsea’s hierarchy have “banished” Gallagher from first-team training, after he rejected two contract offers from the club.
Speaking from their pre-season tour of the USA, Maresca said: “The only thing I can say is that he was in contact with the club to find a solution. I don’t think it’s something new.
“In football, every summer, different clubs have some problems with some players, and then at the end, they find a solution and everyone is happy. Hopefully the same can happen in this situation.”
