Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede has asserted that the unbundling of Mass Communication in the nation’s tertiary institutions is untimely.
Oloyede spoke in Ilorin, Kwara State during the 15th year anniversary of the University of Ilorin 89.3FM Radio Station.
He said specialisation in Mass Communication should be restricted at the Postgraduate level, noting that Nigeria is still developing and has not reached the state for such development.
The JAMB Registrar explained that the country has many graduates looking for jobs, adding that narrowing down their opportunity to a particular discipline would also limit their chances of getting employed.
“We need to be broader, giving the level of our under-development. It is important to keep Mass Communication at the undergraduate level,” he said.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole lauded the achievement of the campus radio since establishment 15 years ago.
He commended the vision of Prof. Oloyede who helped to establish the institution’s radio during his tenure as the vice chancellor of UNILORIN.
Egbewole pledged the university’s continued support for the radio to develop and excel, despite all odds.
