World Bank has extolled Gombe State government over its development feats, saying the state is a paradigm of success in project implementation and effective governance.

During a courtesy visit to Governor Inuwa Yahaya at the Gombe Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, World Bank’s country director for Nigeria, Dr Ndiame Diop, praised the state’s remarkable strides in executing World Bank-supported projects across critical sectors.

Diop lauded Inuwa’s commitment to delivering impactful projects, “which has not only accelerated development but also exemplified effective governance and accountability in fund utilisation.”

He highlighted standout projects, including the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme, the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP), the SPTAS, and the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) programme, “which have significantly improved citizens’ well-being by enhancing infrastructure, increasing access to clean water, and boosting economic opportunities.”

The World Bank country director emphasised that Gombe State’s commitment to these projects has set a high standard for other states in Nigeria, establishing it as a successful model of partnership that effectively addresses local challenges while fostering sustainable growth and development.

Diop however identified areas for further improvement, stressing the need for sustained momentum and strategic planning to ensure that the impact of the projects continues beyond their completion.

Responding, Governor Inuwa assured the World Bank of his administration’s commitment to re-strategising and leveraging strategic partnerships with international organisations like the World Bank to drive progress and provide essential services to the people of the state.
